I’ve done a number of “photographic walkabouts” lately with more on the way. These images are from my venture to Marie Selby Gardens in Sarasota, FL.

You know what’s hot in photography? I’m mainly speaking of Real Estate and similar photographic works. There are certain styles that if you spend any time looking at marketing images for homes and spaces, you’ll quickly see.

Seriously. There are so many images that I’ve shot and forgotten about. I’m talking maybe over 1,000. Who knows? More perhaps?
Somewhere on a long-unused, aging hard drive these shots reside. And I have a bunch of similar drives, all with unedited images.

Frame right - leaning against the wall - Lead Singer with the “I’m way too fucking cool to be in this or any shot. I’m the greatest songwriter in the world and everyone knows it” look.

Oh, that sounded deep. At least to me it did. I was editing images from my most recent photographic walkabout.

I was told that I had it easy. Just show up, photograph for an hour, then leave and get paid. I really wish it were that simple. Really, I do. But that’s not anywhere close to how things actually work.

One of the biggest mistakes that young people make is that they think they’ve already paid their dues.

Still early spring 2015 and I got another “Mike the Photographer” parking pass for my second photo shoot. I was brimming with confidence having just finished my first pro photography gig.
It wasn’t until I got to the guard shack….

Then why would someone do this? I often ask myself the very question. Usually when I’m standing in the middle of a home that’s a mess.

I’ve learned so much about real estate. Not just photographing it. But the business of it. Stuff like features, amenities and such. All the things that help to get a home sold.
